BJP levels 9 charges against Congress in its chargesheet, says UPA most corrupt

While the Bharatiya Janata Party is yet to release its manifesto for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the party on Friday issued a chargesheet against the Congress, accusing the UPA government of being the most corrupt since Independence. The chargesheet lists down the BJP's nine allegations against the UPA during its tenure at the Centre.

The first charge levelled by the BJP on the Congress is devaluing the Prime Minister's Office. "The UPA has compromised the dignity of the PM's office. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have devalued the PM's post as the PM acted more as a CEO of a company," said BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad.

The second charge levelled by the BJP is 'destruction of the Indian economy across all sectors'.

In the third charge, 'endless saga of scams', the BJP has said that a majority of the scams under the UPA rule amounted to more than Rs 10,000 crore. "The 2G spectrum, CWG, coal scam, Air India purchase scam are amongst the 21 scams mentioned. The UPA was not willing to seriously investigate any scam if there was no pressure from us and the media," Prasad said.

The fourth charge, the BJP said, was 'challenge to national security'. "There have been more than 500 incidents of border violation by China and Pakistan in the past one year," Prasad said.

The BJP also added 'faulty foreign policy' and 'neglecting the development of Northeast' in its list of charges against the UPA government. The seventh charge levelled is 'failure in education and healthcare'.
